About Me
Ilana M. Brownstein is the Literary Manager and dramaturg at the Huntington Theatre Company, where she is director of both the Huntington Playwriting Fellows (HPF) program and the Breaking Ground Festival, administers commissions from the Calderwood Fund, edits the Limelight Literary Guide and writes all program notes, and serves as teaching artist for the Young Voices Playwriting program. She holds an M.F.A. in Dramaturgy & Dramatic Criticism from the Yale School of Drama, and a B.A. in Directing from The College of Wooster.

Her dramaturgy credits include the Broadway and Huntington productions of "Mauritius" by Theresa Rebeck; the development and premiere of HPF plays including Melinda Lopez’s "Sonia Flew," Ronan Noone’s "Brendan" and "The Atheist," and Sinan Ünel’s "The Cry of the Reed," and developmental productions of Melinda Lopez’s "Gary," John Shea’s "Comp," and Joyce Van Dyke’s "The Oil Thief"; all season productions at the Huntington since 2003; as well as productions at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Yale Rep, and Yale Cabaret, among others. Playwrights with whom she is currently developing commissioned scripts include Mat Smart, Daniel Goldstein and Michael Friedman, Lydia Diamond, John Shea, and Naomi Iizuka.

Ms. Brownstein adjudicates dramaturgy and playwriting awards for the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival, as well as the Dramaturgy Residency award for Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA). Her articles have been published in "TheatreForum," "Theatre," "Slavic and East European Performance," and Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s "Prologue" and "Illuminations," among others. She has guest lectured at universities throughout New England, and is currently a Lecturer in dramatic literature and dramaturgy at Boston University.

Ms. Brownstein is a former regional and executive vice president of LMDA, and serves as Arts Advisor to Jake Zimmerman, Missouri State Representative of the 83rd District.
