About Me
John M. Baker is a freelance dramaturg and the artistic associate at Brooklyn-based Page 73, where he coordinates I-73, the playwrights' workshop. He has previously worked in the literary departments at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, Naked Angels, The Riverside Theatre Company, the Guthrie Theater and Williamstown Theatre Festival. This past summer he organized the first national MFA Playwright Convening at The O'Neill. In addition to his work on classic plays, John has dramaturged new work at 24Seven Lab, The Hatchery Festival, Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop, Juggernaut Theatre, The Juilliard School, Ma-Yi, The National New Play Network, The O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Page 73, Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, Studio 42, SPF, Williamstown Theatre Festival and The Arcola/Yaller Skunk Theatre Company (London). Recently, he has worked with playwrights Neena Beber (ITALIAN SOJOURN), Julia Cho (THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE), Zayd Dohrn (REBORNING), Jason Grote (BOX AMERICANA), Samuel D. Hunter (I AM MONTANA; IDAHO/DEAD IDAHO; HELLS CANYON; JACK'S PRECIOUS MOMENT; ATLASING SODOM; THE WHALE), A. Rey Pamatmat (EDITH CAN SHOOT THINGS AND HIT THEM), Alena Smith (THE SACRIFICES) and Samuel Brett Williams (THE WOODPECKER). He has participated in ATHE's Dramaturgy Debut Panel, won the National KCACTF Dramaturgy Award and served on the Elliott Hayes Selection Committee. He has taught at Boston Latin School, Fordham University, Marymount Manhattan College, Rutgers University and the University of Iowa. John holds a BA in English from Boston University, an MFA in Dramaturgy from the University of Iowa and is a graduate of Boston Latin School.
