Producing Director - Birmingham Children's Theater

BIRMINGHAM, AL Position: Producing Director Reports to Executive Artistic DirectorDirect Reports: Technical Director, Costume Shop ManagerFull Time, ExemptBirmingham Children’s Theatre is seeking a Producing Director to join our dedicated and hard-working team. The Producing Director is responsible for supervising all aspects of production, including hiring and supervision of all production personnel and some artistic personnel (in conjunction with the Executive Artistic Director), working with directors and designers to ensure top quality productions and events, creating and maintaining production budgets, and serving as a facility liaison. The Producing Director will also play a key role in the strategic planning for the organization, with possible growth potential. 3-5 years experience as a Producing Director, Director of Production, Production Manager, or member of a Production Management team required.  Additional experience as a stage manager, designer, technician, or director desired.RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)FINANCIAL Develop and supervise production budgets. The Producing Director will work closely with the Managing Director and Executive Artistic Director, delivering updates on the status of the Production budget on a regular basis; oversee contracts for all independent contractors and deliver pay schedules to the Managing Director; ensure that overall expenses do not go over budget without approval of the Executive Artistic Director.SCHEDULING In collaboration with Executive Artistic Director, Director of Education, and Managing Director, develop season schedule for all in-house productions, tours, special events, and educational programs. Develop and administer production calendars and design deadlines for each production. Determine load-in and tech schedules for the stage. Manage resource calendars for all shared facility spaces. Schedule all design and production meetings.DESIGN PROCESS Guide all director/design teams through the design process to guarantee the timely completion of all designs. With the input of appropriate technical staff, analyze all designs submitted to determine feasibility of execution within the allotted time, money and personnel available.MANAGING PRODUCTION PERSONNEL Hire, contract, and supervise all production staff and contractors including, but not limited to: designers, full time technical staff, electricians, carpenters, stage managers, production assistants, wardrobe personnel, running crew, artistic consultants and any additional personnel required for specific production needs. In collaboration with the Executive Artistic Director and Casting Director, contract and supervise all actors, as well.REHEARSALS In collaboration with directors, stage managers, and other key personnel, schedule all rehearsals. Oversee all technical rehearsals and attend performances as needed.TOURS Oversee all touring performances, ensuring that all actors and technicians are supported.SPECIAL EVENTS Attend all special events, such as fundraisers, openings, previews, promotional events, as needed. Provide production support whenever a special event requires.RENTALS Oversee the rental of all scenery, costumes, props, lighting equipment, and other equipment outside the organization.REQUIREMENTS:3-5 years experience as a Producing Director, Production Manager, or member of a production management team requiredBachelor’s Degree in Theatre (or equivalent experience)Broad understanding of all technical aspects of theatreAdditional experience as a stage manager, designer, or director desiredStrong computer skillsAbility to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physical labor as neededTO APPLY: Please email cover letter and resume along with a list of three references to the attention of Executive Artistic Director, Brandon Bruce at brandon@bct123.org.
