LMDA is proud to announce the 8th annual offering of travel grants to Early Career Dramaturgs for this summer’s conference in Vancouver. For full application instructions, please click HERE.

Applications are due by Friday, May 24th.

On Sunday, April 28, a group of LMDA members and people interested in exploring dramaturgy's use in other areas gathered in Philadelphia to attend a panel discussion titled "The Dramaturg in the World."

The goal of the panel was to provide early career dramaturgs and recent graduates with ideas for ways that they can make use of their dramaturgical skills in other areas. Two panelists, Allison Lyman and Martha Wade Steketee, shared their own stories and the ways they came to dramaturgy and how they use it in other parts of life.

Lyman has an MFA in dramaturgy from Brooklyn College and has found herself working in the field of development, serving as assistant director of institution relations at the Met. She discussed the way that her skills as a dramaturg- especially research skills - play a big role in her day-to-day life in development and grant-writing.

Steketee came to dramaturgy later on, beginning her career as a court researcher and realizing through that career that what she was really interested in was theater. The two panelist's different backgrounds but also their similarities led to an engaging discussion.

There have been a lot of articles and interviews about and with dramaturgs lately.  Here are just a few that we have seen.  If you know of others, please send them to Janine Sobeck, VP Communications.

Great theatre provokes great questions.  It inspires us to feel and explore our world deeply.

On the occasion of World Theatre Day, Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas celebrates the catalytic effect of theatrical storytelling with theatre makers and audiences around the world.

The quest for a deeper understanding, the encompassing engagement with a story and the vital conversations that are enkindled by a great piece of theatre are at the heart of our work as literary managers and dramaturgs.

We have much to celebrate.  Here’s to the new discoveries made as the curtain rises in theatres everywhere tonight and every night!

The University Caucus of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas will once again sponsor a Hot Topics session at the next annual conference in Vancouver, BC on Thursday, 27 June 2013, from 3 to 5pm. Hot Topics invites all LMDA members (not academics only) to present, in 5 minutes, an idea or project that passionately engages you right now.

We’re fierce about the time limit to make room for everyone, so your presentation will require a good deal of careful preparation. You want to introduce the topic so that anyone interested can join you in conversation. It’s not a bad idea to write something in more detail, a page you can hand around, more if you want.

We are happy to write to your dean or department chair in support of your application for funds to attend the conference.

If you have a topic, and would like to be on the schedule, please get in touch with Geoff Proehl, Bryan Moore, Lee Devin right away. Spots are limited, so please contact us as soon as possible.

This year's annual LMDA Canada Meeting will take place on Friday April 5, 2013 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the EPCOR Centre's Arts Learning Centre as part of the Enbridge playRites Festival Blitz Weekend (April 5 - 7, 2013).  We hope you'll join us for the meeting which kicks off the vital conversation about new work and the state of theatre in Canada and beyond during Alberta Theatre Projects Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays Blitz Weekend.

It is the an annual meeting for LMDA Canada but you don't need to be Canadian to attend: everyone is invited, of course!

Do you like having seed money to support that project?

Then the Dramaturg Driven grants just might be for you!

Check out HERE for more details on the simple steps you would need to take to apply.
