“My definition of dramaturgy shifts slightly every time I articulate it. To me, the heart of dramaturgy is communication--and that starts with the cocktail party definition of what we do. Sometimes I speak of dramaturgy in terms of advocacy (for the playwright, for the play, for the director, for the actors, for the audience), and sometimes I speak of dramaturgy in terms of "sense-making" (structural, cognitive, spatial, intuitive).”
