Managing Artistic Director
Patti Flather is a theatre artist, educator and award-winning writer of plays, fiction and screenplays. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. Flather is Managing Artistic Director of Gwaandak Theatre in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, a company which develops, produces and tours plays showcasing Aboriginal, northern and diverse voices. Recent Gwaandak projects include: the collective creation TELL ME MORE…with artists with and without disabilities; commissions with Kenneth T. Williams (CAFÉ DAUGHTER) and Leonard Linklater (JUSTICE) culminating in premieres and touring productions. Flather’s plays including SIXTY BELOW (with Linklater) and WEST EDMONTON MALL have been produced across Canada and also published; her play WHERE THE RIVER MEETS THE SEA won the 2005 Canadian National Playwriting Competition. She’s working with dramaturg DD Kugler on her new play PARADISE, and planning for more new play development with Gwaandak Theatre. Originally from Vancouver on Canada’s West Coast, she has called the Yukon home now for two decades.
